Text Box: “HOMESICK!”
One of the greatest stresses I suffered as a Chaplain in Viet Nam was homesickness! Every night as I looked up at the stars above me, saw that those same stars had shined on my loved ones back in the states the night before, and my heart would ache with homesickness to the point of tears.
Several years ago, I held a Bible Study at the local nursing home , I began by asking if anyone had a prayer request. One little old, silver-haired lady setting in a wheel chair lifted her hand and asked me to pray for her because she missed her daddy and was homesick! I then asked: “How long has he been gone?” She replied: “He died in 1944!”
We all suffer from homesickness. I too at time here miss my wife and grandson, so its not limited to just a few. Part of it may be getting older and beginning to yearn to go home and be with the Lord!
One person that should have the greatest right to be homesick was our Lord, Jesus Christ. Look at what he had left behind in Heavenly places, yet He only talked about what lay ahead for all of us!
Earthly Dads and Moms do die! We sometimes lose our mates and become homesick. Homesickness is the backward call into a world to which we can never return. Faith is lifting our feeble eyes and fixing our eyes on another Father who stands in our future, beckoning us onward.
